ΙΜΒΒ participated in the Researcher’s Night 2025 at FORTH

The Researcher’s Night 2025 at FORTH was held with great success!
Young and old had the opportunity to get acquainted with the research conducted in the Institutes of FORTH. IMBB participated with 14 research teams!

Visitors had the chance to learn about the Ancient DNA Laboratory, Plant Physiology, and Plant Resistance to Pathogens.
How are the tick borne pathogens transmitted?
How can we discover mechanisms of insecticide resistance in disease vectors and agricultural pests, and how do we explore new insecticide targets for insect control?
They also had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with portable diagnostic tools developed in the Biosensors Laboratory for detecting viruses and microorganisms in humans, animals, and environmental samples (including water and plants).

In addition, they learned how fluorescent worms help unlock the secrets of aging and disease!
What kinds of cells make up cancer?
How are new technologies and artificial intelligence used to identify new biomarkers for cardiovascular diseases?
How do we study bioactive compounds in Greek food products?

Visitors explored the developing brain and learned how neurodegenerative diseases are studied in animal and human models.
Finally, they discovered how mice perceive objects and how learning and memory functions in our brain are studied through experimental and computational models.

We warmly thank all visitors — young and old — who enthusiastically took part in this great celebration of science, as well as the researchers, students, and everyone who contributed to the event’s success!

The event is funded by the European Union and is held with the support of the Region of Crete and the Regional Development Fund of Crete.
